We’ve decided to postpone our teacher training until February 2025. The next year is shaping up to be a big one in the Unplugged community, as we’ve got a new studio and new life in the works! The YTT will still be running with the same team, just six months later. We hope this new date suits members of our community.

Yoga Teacher Training 2025

Have you always wanted to teach yoga?

Are you ready to go deeper in your yoga practice?

Join Jess Oldfield, Carly Ponter and Shayne Pretorius for Unplugged Yoga’s first ever teacher training in 2025! It promises to be a transformative course run over 9 weekends starting in February. Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of the next chapter for the Unplugged Yoga community.

Unplugged Yoga mission statement

Community is at the heart of everything we do. The word yoga means to unite, to connect. Our strong community unites through a mutual love, respect and dedication to the practice. That is Yoga.

The name Unplugged comes from the idea that if we disconnect from the external noise around us, we can turn our awareness inward and discover our true authentic selves. By peeling back the layers we learn and evolve, while having fun in the process.

We’re a modern studio with a deep reverence for the ancient teachings and wisdom of yoga. We balance this with a respect for modern-day movement science and recognise the positive impact this has had on the practice. We’re non-dogmatic, we love to learn, and we believe old and new can work together in the continued evolution of yoga.

Your teachers

Jessica Oldfield

Jess is a passionate student and teacher of yoga. Having lived and taught in London, Sydney and LA, Jess draws on many different styles of yoga and movement modalities to create classes which are unique and intelligently sequenced. Her teaching style is known for being playful, strong and empowering. Jess uses her classes, workshops and immersions to help build community –  taking the practice of yoga off the mat and into daily life.

On this training, Jess will be teaching asana labs, sequencing, pranayama and the business of yoga modules.

Carly Ponter

Carly, a perpetual student of yoga for over a decade and a certified teacher since 2016, is deeply committed to the art of teaching yoga. Her expertise extends into crafting meticulously sequenced classes that harmoniously blend education with fostering personal empowerment and growth. Drawing from her diverse background in various movement modalities (including yoga, massage therapy, pilates, and aerial arts), Carly thrives on challenging her students' strength and stamina, all while encouraging playful exploration. While her teachings and personal practice often embody strength and challenge, Carly firmly believes in the profound connection between the body and the essence of yoga, and that this truly transcends beyond the mat.

Carly will be facilitating asana labs, teaching skills, meditation, restorative practices, subtle body modules and more.

Shayne Pretorius

Shayne is the founder of Unplugged and simply loves yoga. She believes that if the whole world practiced yoga it would be a healthier and happier place.

As a business owner with a family of three children, her life is her yoga. She draws from her experiences both on and off the mat and brings her learnings as teachings and wisdom into the classroom.

Her teaching style is grounded in philosophy, is breath-centred, and she delivers strong, intelligent, and intentional movement in her classes.

Shayne will teach yoga history, philosophy and ethics in this training.

 FAQs

  • A minimum of 12 months consistent yoga practice is recommended. Experience in another movement practice is ok but you need to know what the basic fundamental poses are (such as Warrior 2, sun salutations, etc.)

  • The course is not just designed for those who want to teach classes. Concepts, strategies, and skills learnt during this course can be applied to everyday life and jobs outside of yoga. Teaching doesn’t have to be the main goal for you.

  • Yes, there are exams, or we like to call them assessments. They’re as much for the students as they are for us teachers. For the students, its to ensure you are understanding the content being delivered. For the teachers its about being able to rectify where we feel students require more guidance.

  • Predominantly a modern take on Vinyasa. Expect anatomy, alignment and technique to be heavily included throughout the course.

  • We believe with the variety of yoga teacher trainings out there, you should try some classes with your teaching faculty and like the way we teach. Classes with this team are often strong and challenging. You don’t have to have a strong practice as yet but know you will be challenged during this course both physically and mentally.

  • Try your best not too - but life happens! You’ll have extra homework and milestones you’ll need to hit. It is your responsibility to inform and manage this with your teaching team. If you miss more than 2 weekends, you won’t be able to get your teaching certificate.
